Spectacular start

Barcelona Olympic Sailing Week - Spectacular start
BARCELONA, SPAIN-(13-3-2005) The wind direction stayed in the southeast at 210º with an intensity of between 18 and 20 knots and a strong seaway.

Almost two hundred boats, divided into 8 different classes (2 of them feminine), departed from the Port Fòrum to their respective areas of the regatta.

From the 19 participants in the 49er class, 9 went into the sea and only 3 finished the 3 races that were set windward and leeward due to the intensity of the wind and the size of the waves that made sailing a difficult task. The Italian Pietro Sibello and Gianfranco Sibello celebrated the victory.

The Italian Gabrio Zandona and Francesco Della Torre obtained the first place in 470 M. Natàlia Via-Dufresne and Laia Tutzó showed an absolute superiority in the 470 W class obtaining the first place in today’s races.

The Tornado Class sailed in a race area far from the coast with strong wind intensity and higher waves than the areas closer to the coast. The Spanish crew formed by Fernando Echavarri and Antón Paz obtained the victory in the three races of the day.

Rafael Trujillo, number one in the ranking at the moment, and silver medal in the Athens Olympic Games 2004 in the Finn Class was also a full time winner today, with the three races on his score.

Laser´s favorite, Diego Negri, was surpassed by Adonis Bougiouris just by one score.

In Laser Radial the Spanish Alicia Cebrián was accredited with the triumph in the three races of this new and challenging Olympic Class. The same results followed for Marc Paris in the Europe Class, also from Spain.
